Fundraising Quiz Night

Dear All

I would firstly like to thank all of you who came to our fundraising quiz night on Friday 6th June, West Staff Village Hall. I would especially like to thank you all for your generosity in providing food and raffle prizes. A big thank you to Bryan Sennett, Chairman of the Dorchester Fishing Club and John Aplin who kindly donated two days fishing which we auctioned.

I am pleased to let you know that we raised £511. Included in this figure was some generous donations that I was asked to use specifically for the Dorset Branch to purchase some additional equipment that we require. To that end, I have purchased some priests and de-barbing pliers, leaving a balance of £371 which we will forward to SW Fishing for Life who will use the funding to support us in the future.

SW Fishing for Life has previously supported us in purchasing set up equipment including 6 rods, nets, reels, lines and some safety equipment. The Dorset Branch is very pleased to be able to have raised some funds that are held centrally for our collective use. We are continually looking to raise funds to provide more equipment and also to pay for hire of facilities.

Once again thank you so much for coming to our first fund raising event. I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope that you did too.

With very best wishes

‘Fishing for Life’ is an organization which provides fly fishing sessions for people who all have one thing in common – breast cancer. The Dorset Branch holds meetings every month at Wrackleford Estate during the fly fishing season and West Bay at other times.  At these sessions they are  able to learn to fly fish under the supervision of qualified coaches.  Please go to  http://www.southwestfishingforlife.org.uk for more information on the organization.

This is our first fundraising event in Dorset that will allow us to provide these sessions free of charge to the participant.   As well as learning to fly fish, knot tying, entomology, fly tying and conservation are all included in the program and each morning’s session is concluded with a buffet lunch.

We are raising the funds to pay for venue hire and equipment.  I am very grateful to the coaches who give of their time freely and provide such a wealth of knowledge.

Please let me know if you would like to come along.

Summer Break

The Chalkstream Club had a great winter season of gatherings in West Stafford village hall, we would like to thank all our fabulous guest speakers and of course all of you who attended making those evenings great fun, not forgetting the amazing food and wine.. A big thank you also to the Wise Man for putting up with us and serving their fine ales.

The Salmon season has started, the Trout fishing begins on the 1st April so now is the time to get on and enjoy your fishing and of course our “Dorset Chalkstreams”

We hope to put together a casting / fishing clinic for later in the year so please watch this space.

Remember the Chalkstream Club photographic competition (friendly) these pictures will be looked at by us all at our first winter meeting in October. Helpers to sort, judge and perhaps donate a prize would be much appreciated.

Remember ALWAYS have a camera with you…

Perhaps stick in a few of your own words and a few jolly fishing pictures..

See you in a bit
John
