What a Christmas cracker of a night, the wind was howling outside but inside there was lots and I means lots of fishy talk. Huge thanks to all our guest speakers:
Zoe Pittaway who is the Catchment Coordinator Wessex, gave us an overview of her work on the Frome & Piddle Catchment Initiative, co-ordinating all the organisations to achieve the maximum results on the Frome & Piddle catchment area. wessexwater.co.uk
Next up was Stephen Gregory who talked about the hugely important work by the GWCT at the River Lab at East Stoke. Plus a recent photograph of a 135cm salmon swimming through the salmon counter!!! gwct.org.uk also Stephen’s blog to see his slides from tonights talk morfishorg.tumblr.com/dorset-chalk-stream-club-talk
We then enjoyed another amazing buffet meal (thanks to all who brought food) Here is the recipe for the smoked grayling pate that went down well, just substitute the mackerel with grayling smoked mackerel pate
Then we enjoyed a fascinating talk by Christina Tooley, proprietor of “Chevron Hackles” (chevronhackles.com) on what it takes to breed and produce such amazing hackles perfect for the fly tying world.
Last but by no means least, Charles Jardine provided us with another entertaining talk on this years trip to Iceland, catching huge trout (7lb!) on size 22 dry flies! Interested, you should be – more details here charlesjardine.co.uk
Huge thanks to all the helpers and to John Aplin for all his enthusiasm and effort – three cheers for John…..
