Up early for breakfast and then to head to Morrison’s, got there just after 7 and it was very quiet, got round in double quick time and no hold ups at the checkout.
Then to prepare for my first bike ride for 30 years. It was like I was 10 again, I packed some snacks and a drink in my backpack, Vicky waved me off.
I was heading east along the valley and thought, if I can get up to the top of Gould’s Hill, then Weymouth/the sea is all downhill from there. Difficult with 21 gears, to know what gear to choose as I started heading up. I thought the chain had come off, but it was just so easy to pedal and up I went. Some fat guy passed me, just as I was about to get off and push. He wasn’t going to get away with passing me, so I up’d my speed after him. I never did catch him, but I did reach the top without stopping. Preston Beach was looking very possible.
Down the track towards the Weymouth/Dorchester Road and a cycle path all the way to Littlemoor. It was all downhill, what total glee and a huge smile on my face. Before I knew it I was cycling past Littlemoor, just a couple of miles to the beach.
As I approached I could smell the salty air and there it was glistening in the morning sun. Not too many people about as I made my way down to it. Down went the bike and I dunked my head in it – heaven.

Usual photos and then to head back, unsure which way to go. Chatted with Eve who used to live opposite.
Decision made, I was going back up the cycle lane to the top of the ridgeway and then down into Monkton.
Had a break half way up and then tried to cycle all the way, but just too steep for me and I was now fairly knackered, off I got and pushed to the top.
More glee going down to Monkton, then along behind Maiden Castle – 15 miles, just a slight sore arse and wobbly legs, but it was worth it 100%
Surprisingly I didn’t do a lot for the rest of the day – but I prepped some chicken wings and started my preserved lemons.
